Did you know today is labelled ‘Blue Monday’ as it is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year. Supposedly caused by the following factors:

·         Weather (yes it is definitely wet and grey here)

·         The length of time since Christmas

·         New Year’s resolutions failure

·         Lack of motivation

·         Dwindling bank balance

All in all makes for a thoroughly miserable sounding day! But a few simple steps will turn today into a Happy Monday!

1.    Keep exercising – whichever form of exercise takes your fancy whether it be a fun new dance class, a relaxing pilates session or even following a work out on you tube, making the effort to get some form of exercise keeps body and mind happy and healthy releasing the happy hormone serotonin.

2.    Mood enhancing foods – make sure you’re consuming plenty of Omega-3s, low levels of Omega-3 are believed to contribute to low moods, Omega-3 is found in oily fish, walnuts, spinach and kale.  Vitamin D is often lacking in these darker months so give your vitamin D supplies a boost by increasing your intake of dairy, eggs and fish.

3.    Make plans – whether it be plans for this year’s holiday or a simple get together with friends having something to look forward to lifts your mood

4.    Call a friend for a catch up reminiscing with a good friend or just getting up to date on their news is sure to lift your spirits.

 Health Cash Plans

If health concerns are adding to your worries vow to do something about it.  Orchard Healthcare’s health cash plan enables you to take control of your health:

All Orchard Healthcare members can opt for a health screening – a great way to get a health MOT and talk through any concerns with a medical professional.  We are currently offering Well Man and Well Woman clinics at a subsidised rate, meaning that the screening will only cost you £32.50.

Use your healthcare plan – if you’re in our gold scheme why not opt to use your ‘complimentary therapies’ benefit for a relaxing massage after all you deserve a little ‘me time’.

Acupuncture can improve physical, mental, and emotional health and overall well-being by releasing tension and stress.  All members of Orchard Healthcare are able to claim back 50% of the cost of acupuncture.  With treatment typically costing £40, £20 can be reclaimed via your health cash plan.
